Four days on Islay, and no two of these distilleries chase the same flavour.

Two long driving days and two short ones — day one crosses the island end to end, and day four is ten minutes of it.

the night you land, then four days out

Day by day

Every nightPort EllenPort Ellen is the base for the whole trip: a proper town rather than a distillery car park, with a good beach on your doorstep and the facilities you'd actually want after a day of touring.Where to stay→

The boat home goes from Port Askaig, not the terminal here in Port Ellen, so check the sailing before you book that last night.

Night one

You land today. Tomorrow starts north, and early.

Night two

A long first day up north and back — eat in Port Ellen rather than chasing a kitchen.

Night three

The last bus back from Bowmore runs to its own timetable — check it before the second dram.

Night four

A late one out west — outside high summer you'll be driving back in the dark.

Three Legends, One Road

Today's tours cost £66.50pp. Standard tours at all three start at £64.50pp.

Night five

Three tastings in a day catches up with you. Book the table before you set off.

Getting here and away

FerryKennacraig to Port Askaig. Port Ellen's own terminal is closed for redevelopment until 2029.
TransferAbout 45 minutes south to Port Ellen — allow the rest of arrival day for it.
CarNeeded for days one and three. Nothing else serves them.

When to come

SilentLaphroaig stops distilling 8 July–13 September and Ardnahoe 11 June–15 August — their tours still run, the stills just aren't working. Ardbeg is different: the Classic tour day four is built on is cancelled outright 1 June–12 July, and never runs at a weekend.
Fèis ÌleIslay's own festival, the last week of May. Every distillery on this route opens up, and the island fills.
RoomsIslay has few beds. May to September wants months of notice, and festival week wants far more than that.

IF YOU'D RATHER NOT DRIVE

Take the south on foot

The Kildalton Road spreads day four's three distilleries across two easier days.

IF YOU HAVE A SPARE DAY

Cross to Jura

One single-track road, 258 people, and a ferry that sets your timings rather than you.

IF FOUR DAYS IS TOO MANY

Just the west

The Rhinns Trail takes three of these distilleries at a slower pace, based in Bridgend.
